Paul R. Hammerl Owner/Licensed Funeral Director

Paul is a native New Yorker, having been born and raised in Buffalo. After taking a death and dying course in college, Paul became interested in funeral service. Enrolling and graduating from the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service, Paul became New York State licensed in 1989. He also attained a Bachelor of Science degree from Medaille College in New York.


In 1998, Paul moved to Fairfield County in Connecticut where he first managed the Raymond Funeral Home in Norwalk and then the Hoyt Funeral Home in New Canaan. Always having desired to own and operate his own funeral home, Paul purchased the Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home in November of 2011.


In March of 2018, Paul purchased a second funeral home, the Copeland Funeral Home in New Paltz.


Paul is currently a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Church, where he serves as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and a Parish Council board member. He is also a member of the Ulster County Chamber of Commerce, the Knights of Columbus (Kingston Council #275) where he is a fourth degree knight, and both the New York State Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association.


Paul lives above the funeral home and when he is not serving the community, he enjoys restoring various art deco artifacts and classic cars.

Steve Williams Licensed Funeral Director

Steve is a native Kingstonian, having been born and raised here. The son of the Late Gilbert C. and Mary (Hickey) Williams, Steve became interested in Funeral Service at the age of 11 following the funeral of his father. “This was the gift that my father gave to me through his death


After attending Ulster County Community College, Steve pursued his degree at Simmons institute for Funeral Service in Syracuse, New York, where he received an associate’s degree in Occupational Studies in Funeral Service Arts and Science. While attending Simmons Institute, Steve served as Vice-President and later President of the Sigma-Phi-Sigma Fraternity. Under his leadership, he organized food drives for Ronald Mc Donald House in Syracuse.


Following his residency, Steve became a licensed Funeral Director in 2001. Since then, he has worked at various funeral homes and more recently has worked part-time for Simpson-Gaus Funeral Home. In February of 2018, Steve joined the Simpson-Gaus family as a full-time employee. Steve currently holds membership in both the New York State Funeral Directors Association as well as the National Funeral Directors Association.


Through his affiliation with the 156 Field Artillery Association, Steve is a volunteer with the local Wounded Warrior Weekend project that is held at Joyce Schrick Post 1386 V.F.W. He is also a member of the White Eagle Benevolent Society and the Mannerchor and Damenchor of Kingston.


Steve resides with his family in Port Ewen, New York. In his free time, he enjoys, collecting Football and Boxing memorabilia, as well as cooking and music.
